The government of Azerbaijan and its armed forces continue to refuse to release Armenian prisoners of war and civilians in their custody in direct violation of a tripartite peace agreement signed on November 10, 2020 between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia, explicitly stipulating their release.
Myriad news reports have previously confirmed the extra-judicial torture and, subsequent, murder of illegally held Armenian prisoners of war and civilian non-combatants, both male and female, by the government of Azerbaijan within its state-run prisons and rendition sites.
Azeri authorities continue to torture, abuse, and murder Armenians in their custody with flagrant disregard for all international norms, as well as international and interstate laws and conventions governing the status of captives, prisoners of war, and hostages.
Our collective and immediate priorities are to secure the release of each and every Armenian continuing to be illegally held by Azerbaijan, as soon as possible, bring them home to be reunited with their families, secure the return of the remains of those murdered, and seek justice for those tortured--and still being tortured--at the hands of the Azeri state.
